Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is an incredibly lovely destination, located as the southernmost of the Ionian islands. The landscape is breathtaking with its rich vegetation and pine tree covered mountains.  The Venetians had given Zakynthos the name, Fioro di Levante, meaning flower of the orient due to the island’s rich, lushness and greenery. 
 

Zakynthos has wonderful beaches, each with distinct characters, that despite the influx of tourist, maintain their identities.  Each and every visitor to Zakynthos will find the perfect beach.  Alikes, with its soft sand and shallow, shelving waters, serves as an enjoyable destination for children.  Alykanas, nearby, is surrounded with olive groves and picturesque scenery. 
 

Those looking to get away can find the peace and relaxation they seek at Bouka.  A relatively small, yet extremely quaint, secluded beach, where the nearby village continues to strongly maintain its Greek traditions and provide a tranquil relaxation post. The beauty of the island and it’s exceptionally congenial citizens helps create an ideal destination for honeymooners. 

Gerakas, called the best beach on the island, was voted one of the top beaches in all of Europe.  The Caretta Caretta sea turtles seem to agree, as they come here to lay their precious eggs.  Visiters to this splendid locale are trusted to leave the eggs in peace, only to admire them from a distance.

Zakynthos does not disappoint when it comes to night life.  Laganas, the most popular beach on the island, is located in an extremely lively part of the city .  Night owls will find plenty to do. Another evening destination is Solomou square, which is more peaceful, but also not to be missed.

Last but not least, one of Zakynthos’ most fantastic sites is Navagio, meaning shipwreck in Greek.  Navagio, or Smuggler’s Cove, as it is also know n by is only accessible by boat and is one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
